Meet Mike Donovan

Mike Donovan is the President and CEO of Nexus Services, Inc., a privately owned family of companies dedicated to delivering cutting-edge products and services with the intense desire to make the lives of Nexus Services' clients better.

Donovan's vision created an innovative approach to immigrant bond securitization, the use of GPS technology to reduce jail overcrowding and to provide low-cost and high-quality housing options in communities across the nation.  The Nexus family of companies is premier providers of life-changing products and services its clients need. Donovan's companies are on the front lines of a movement to promote peace and justice, with a constant respect for the inherent worth and dignity of all Nexus serves.

Donovan is ardent civil rights advocate, and the host of "Breaking Through," a popular public affairs radio and television program, airing in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

Founded in 2011, Nexus has helped reunite thousands of immigrant families separated as a result of ICE detention and our nation's broken immigration system. Donovan is dedicated to helping immigration detainees, and their families navigate their way through our nation's complex and broken immigration system.

As a champion of immigrant rights and immigration reform, Nexus sponsors one of the country’s leading pro-bono immigration legal services, Nexus Caridades Attorneys, Inc. With a full-time team of over 20 dedicated attorneys, Caridades attorneys perform over 100,000 hours a year in pro-bono legal representation defending immigrants in removal proceedings, basically serving as a private "Attorney General" for those who have no voice.

Nexus also funds Nexus Derechos Humanos, one of the country’s largest providers of pro bono civil rights representation with more then 20,000 pro bono hours per year. Nexus Derechos Humanos represents prisoners, convicted persons, and those ravaged by poverty, who are abused and neglected by government agencies.  The firm has represented inmates denied medication, families of individuals killed by biased police, and people who’s constitutional rights are violated by law enforcement officers.

Donovan fights to reform our broken immigration, money bail bond, and criminal justice systems through compassionate legislation. A former inmate himself, Donovan was arrested and jailed as a teenager for a larceny related criminal offense. He developed an understanding of the complexities of the criminal justice system, and the pitfalls for people who can't afford legal counsel or bond.

He overcame those challenges and went on to become a pastor, go to law school, became a successful lobbyist and creator of workable re-entry programs for past inmates.

He has authored numerous bills that are now law in the Commonwealth of Virginia related to criminal justice reform and protecting the rights of all residents.  Furthermore, Donovan added a charitable bonding program called Serve by Nexus that helps formerly incarcerated people return to society. Donovan believes a person's past mistakes do not have to define their worth, their life, or their future.

In December of 2016, Donovan via Nexus Services, Inc.,  joined The White House's Fair Chance Business Pledge as a founding partner.  This pledge was a call-to-action for all members of the private sector to improve their communities by eliminating barriers for those with a criminal record and create a pathway for a second chance.  Donovan takes pride that the Nexus Family of companies truly provides equal opportunities as an employer. Nexus Services, Inc. is majority minority company that embraces diversity and does not discriminate against job applicants due to their criminal background, sexual orientation, gender, religion, race or any any other factor.

Born and raised in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, Mike lives in Fishersville, VA.
